Third Season Opening of Speaking Hebrew Club in Kyiv
On this Wednesday we opened the third season of the Hebrew Speaking Club “What about to Talk?”
At the first meeting, the participants met each other and discussed their autumn holidays.
WE EXPRESS OUR GRATITUDE to Elena Stamova for an informative conversation about the traditions of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret and Sihmat Torah and also for a pleasant conversation, and delicious pizzas! Thanks to Elena, we learned that a pizza is a very suitable dish for such occasion since the words “holiday” (khag) and “circle” (khug) are close (in such days families gather in circle around the holiday table); and תפוחים דבש (dvash tapukhim), which literally translates as “apple honey” and it means, as you could guess, apple jam!
It was also curious that Yom Kippur is called “yomim-ha-nora” (days of trembling) and the adjective “norA” has a good shade here, and the word מַזָלוֹת (mazelot), whichis akin to the word “good luck” and means zodiac signs.
In order not to miss possible changes in the future, please, track our news.
The next time our meeting is also on Wednesday, October 24, at 18:30, at Naberezhno-Kreshchatitskaya, 37, in the community of traditional Judaism “MASORET”. We will be waiting!
