On July 12, 2019, nine graduates of the Kiev National Linguistic University for the first time in Ukraine received a bachelor’s degree in “Philology: Language and Literature (Hebrew)” with the award of a professional qualification “Hebrew Language Specialist, Hebrew Language Teacher”.

State diplomas in Hebrew in Ukraine were awarded for the first time.

Moreover, these are the first and so far the only bachelors in Ukraine with a specialty in Philology: Language and Literature (Hebrew), because the next issue of KNLU studying this language will have a different specialization: Translator, Hebrew.

Recruitment in this area was due to an acute shortage of specialists who speak Hebrew at the academic level. Four years ago, 14 applicants who decided to learn this language entered the Faculty of Oriental Studies of KNLU.

Three of them are already working in their chosen specialty:
Ksenia Erofeeva teaches Hebrew at the Interdisciplinary Certificate Program in Jewish Studies at NaUKMA, and is also a moderator of the Conversational Hebrew Club in Kiev,
Lilia Lyakhovich is a Hebrew teacher at the Israeli Cultural Center at the Embassy of the State of Israel in Ukraine,
and Ekaterina Murenets works as an educator (madricha) at EnerJew (non-formal Jewish education).
